A different perspective on water

The credited “Underwater” source by Joseph SARDIN and Axeline T. describes a waterfall recorded with a hydrophone. A hydrophone records sound in water; it is a different recording perspective from a microphone beside a stream.

The player repeats a 30-second prepared excerpt. Its source context is freshwater at a waterfall, not an invented reef, submarine or open-ocean location.

Compare underwater and surface recordings

Listen at a comfortable level on your usual equipment. Compare this recording with Stream or Ocean to hear the difference between a below-surface perspective, flowing surface water and shore waves.

A phone speaker and larger speakers may present low-frequency detail differently. Adjust the sound to your equipment rather than treating the volume percentage as a calibrated output level.

Keep the water distinct in a mix

Try Underwater alone before blending it with Night or Forest in the mixer. Bring a second layer in quietly so you can still tell what the underwater recording contributes.

These layers have independent origins. Mixing them makes a new soundscape, not evidence that an underwater and land recording were captured in one place.

Recordings & sources

The player repeats the short audio files below for as long as your session runs. The loop length is the length of each file, not a limit on listening time. Events within a recording may repeat.

Start at a comfortable level. The volume percentages describe player settings; they do not measure the sound level at your ears. Playback with a locked screen or a background tab depends on your device and browser. Opening another page stops playback.

Common questions

Was this recorded in the ocean?

The source describes an underwater waterfall recording made with a hydrophone. We do not claim that it came from the ocean or a named dive location.

Is underwater the same file as stream?

No. Stream is a separate surface recording of a small mountain stream. Underwater uses its own original recording and prepared audio file.

Can I use it as a background with a timer?

Yes. Adjust Volume, choose a timer and press Play. The clip repeats while the session runs; background playback can be interrupted by your browser or device.
